The best way to buy and store apples

Select firm apples that have no bruises or blemishes. Store apples in the fridge as they will stay fresher and keep their crunch for longer. The humble apple is one of the most versatile fruits. Whether it's adding a fresh, sweet crunch to a slaw, served with roast pork or used to make a classic apple pie, apples are great to enjoy all year round.

Three reasons why you should eat apples

  • Enjoy the whole apple, including the skin to get all the nutritional benefits as most of the antioxidants and other nutrients are in the skin.
  • Apples are packed with fibre, are low GI and are also a source of antioxidants to help boost your health.
  • In Australia, we can buy tasty, crisp apples all year around because cold storage is used to store the fruit for short periods of time once picked. Apples are actually picked and harvested during January to May.
