Go beyond the basic burger for a tasty, fast meal that your whole family is sure to love. Substitute lean ground turkey for beef and you can enjoy juicy, flavorful burgers all summer long. Use your hands to make the burgers, working the ketchup and mustard evenly and lightly into the meat. Overworking the patties creates tough burgers. You want to be certain that the burgers are cooked all the way through so use a meat thermometer to test for doneness. The USDA recommends a temperature of 165 degrees F for ground poultry. Serve with sweet potato fries or a fruit salad.

Ingredients

Uncooked extra lean ground turkey breast

1 pound(s)

Ketchup

¼ cup(s)

Dijon mustard

1 Tbsp

Reduced fat American cheese

4 slice(s)

Mixed grain hamburger bun

4 item(s)

Lettuce

8 leaf/leaves, large

Tomato

1 small, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill or stove-top grill pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine turkey, ketchup and mustard. Mix well and form 4 equal patties, about 1-inch thick each.
  3. Grill burgers until cooked through, about 5 minutes per side. Top each burger with 1 slice of cheese; close grill or cover grill pan, and cook until cheese melts, about 1 minute.
  4. Serve cheeseburgers on rolls with lettuce and tomato.
