Turkish turkey pita pizzas

These pita pizzas are a delicious twist on your typical tomato sauce-based pizzas. The turkey and tomato sauce is enhanced by lots of onion, garlic, cumin, paprika, allspice, and cinnamon.

Canola oil
2 tsp
Uncooked extra lean ground turkey breast
¾ pound(s)
Red onion
1 small, halved and sliced
Garlic
3 clove(s), minced
Ground cumin
1¼ tsp
Paprika
1 tsp
Table salt
½ tsp
Ground allspice
¼ tsp
Ground cinnamon
¼ tsp
Canned tomato sauce
8 oz
Whole wheat pita
4 large, pocketless variety (about 7-inches each)
Tomato
1 large, diced
Cilantro
1 cup(s), whole leaves

Preheat oven to 475°F; spray 2 baking sheets with cooking spray.

Heat oil in large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add turkey and onion and cook, breaking up turkey with wooden spoon, until turkey is no longer pink and onion is softened, about 6 minutes. Add garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, allspice, and cinnamon; cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, 1 minute. Stir in tomato sauce and cook, stirring occasionally, 2 minutes.

Place pitas on baking sheets and top each evenly with turkey mixture (scant 3⁄4 cup for each pita). Bake until undersides of pitas are crisp, about 8 minutes. Top evenly with tomato and cilantro.
