Our homemade seasoning blend is a great match for ground turkey, as well as other proteins such as beef or chicken, or crumbed tofu or soy protein, all of which would work in this recipe if turkey isn't your thing. Make a bigger batch of the spice mix and keep it in a tightly closed container. You can use it to speed up prep time on so many future meals! Once the filling is cooked, scoop it into tortillas to make tacos, wrap it in large lettuce leaves, or spoon it over baked potatoes. It's the beginning of so many different meals, from tacos to salads to bowls. Keep it in your regular rotation.

Ingredients

chili powder

1½ Tbsp

ground cumin

2 tsp

paprika

1 tsp

table salt

1 tsp

garlic powder

½ tsp

onion powder

½ tsp

dried oregano

½ tsp

cayenne pepper

¼ tsp

uncooked extra lean ground turkey breast

12 oz

water

½ cup(s)

unpacked brown sugar

1½ tsp

apple cider vinegar

1 Tbsp

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano and cayenne; set aside.
  2. Place turkey in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat; cook, breaking apart meat with back of spoon, until no longer pink, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle turkey with reserved seasoning mix and add water; reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until most of liquid is absorbed, about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in sugar and vinegar; simmer another 2 to 3 minutes. Yields about 1/2 cup per serving.
