Make this stuffing your new holiday go-to. It's a total crowd pleaser, holiday or not, and the perfect side dish on a chilly night when you're looking for a cozy and comforting side dish. We love how well the flavors work together. The turkey sausage is in perfect balance with the vegetables, apples, herbs, and bread.

Ingredients

Whole wheat bread

9 slice(s), cubed

White bread

9 slice(s), cubed

Uncooked turkey sausage

12 oz, casings removed

Celery

6 rib(s), medium, chopped

Onion

3 medium, chopped

Apple

3 small, cored and chopped

Fresh sage

⅓ cup(s), chopped

Fresh parsley

3 Tbsp, chopped

Fresh thyme

1½ Tbsp, chopped

Fat free chicken broth

4½ cup(s)

Liquid egg substitute

¾ cup(s)

Table salt

⅛ tsp, or more to taste

Black pepper

⅛ tsp, or more to taste

Instructions

1

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spread the bread on baking pans and bake until lightly toasted.

2

In a large nonstick skillet sauté the sausage, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain it in a colander and return it to the skillet. Stir in the celery, onion, and apple and sauté until tender.

3

In a very large bowl, stir together the bread cubes, sausage mixture, sage, parsley, and thyme. Drizzle with broth and egg substitute and toss gently to coat. Season with salt and pepper.

4

Spoon stuffing into a 9 x 13-inch casserole dish and bake until heated through and browned on top, about 45 to 50 minutes. Scoop out into 24 servings or, for built-in portion control, cut into 24 squares and serve.
