Nothing brings the family to the table faster than a big platter of homemade spaghetti with meat sauce. This version swaps out the ground beef for extra lean ground turkey, a move your family will never even catch! The rich and flavorful tomato sauce comes together in just an hour, read for a weeknight dinner feast. Dried oregano and basil add an herbaceous depth to the sauce. If you have fresh herbs on hand, you can substitute them for the dried or chop them and sprinkle over the top as a flavorful garnish. Add a crispy baguette and cool green salad dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette for a full table of Italian-inspired favorites.

Grated Parmesan cheese

2 Tbsp, or Romano cheese


  1. Coat a large saucepan with cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat.
  2. Add onion to skillet; cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic; cook 2 minutes. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, sugar and, if desired, salt and pepper flakes; bring to a simmer. Simmer uncovered 25 to 35 minutes or until sauce is desired consistency.
  3. Meanwhile, cook turkey in a large skillet until no longer pink, breaking into chunks with a wooden spoon. Stir turkey into sauce; heat through. Serve over spaghetti and sprinkle with cheese.
