Mojo is a garlicky Caribbean marinade and sauce usually made with sour oranges, an ingredient that can be a tricky to find. Good news! You can get a similar flavor by mixing sweet orange juice with lime juice, as we’ve done here. The sauce is wonderful for cutting through rich roasted or grilled meats or stews, but we also like it drizzled over rice, or really just about anything. Simmering the sauce tempers the raw garlic flavor and makes the sauce slightly thicker.

Ingredients

Olive oil

2 Tbsp

Garlic clove

3 clove(s), grated

Dried oregano

½ tsp

Low sodium vegetable broth

½ cup(s), or chicken broth

Orange juice

¼ cup(s)

Fresh lime juice

3 Tbsp

Sugar

½ tsp

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the oil over medium. Add the garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until aromatic, 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in the oregano. Add the broth, orange juice, lime juice, and sugar and bring to a boil over high heat. Boil the sauce, stirring often, until reduced to ¾ cup, 7 to 10 minutes. Serve immediately, or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
