For a warming drink on wintry evenings, this spiced hot chocolate is ideal

Ingredients
Drinking chocolate, low calorie
50 g
Cocoa Powder
2 tablespoon(s), level
Ground Ginger
1 teaspoon(s), level
Skimmed Milk
1000 ml
Cardamom Pods
1 teaspoon(s), 6 pods
Cinnamon Stick
1 stick(s), plus 4 small cinnamon sticks to serve (optional)
Black pepper
1 g, 4 peppercorns
Instructions
1
In a small bowl, mix together the hot chocolate powder, cocoa and ginger, then add just enough milk to form a smooth paste. Once the paste is smooth, stir in enough milk to reach a pouring consistency.
2
Use the side of a knife to crush the cardamom pods open, then snap the cinnamon stick into a few pieces. Put into a pan with the peppercorns, the chocolate mixture and the rest of the milk.
3
Put the pan over a very low heat and warm slowly until the milk is steaming, but not boiling or bubbling. Strain into mugs and serve with the small cinnamon sticks (if using).
