Sweet potato dip

This easy-to-make sweet potato dip tastes just like sweet potato pie! Ideal for big tailgates or just an afternoon snack, this dip is amazing paired with baked pita chips or fruit slices (we suggest apples or oranges). To make it, we roasted the sweet potatoes first in order to bring out their natural sweetness. But you can also steam, boil, or microwave the potato before you mash it, if you prefer. You might find that these methods are quicker, so if you're in a rush, using one of those might be your best bet. If you want to make this dish more sweet and less savory, you can also swap out the ginger root for a touch of cinnamon.


chickpeas (15 oz)

1½ cup(s), loose skins removed, washed, drained

cooked sweet potato(es)

1 cup(s), mashed*

packed light brown sugar

¼ cup(s)

fresh orange juice

½ cup(s)

orange zest

1 tsp, finely minced

ginger root

1 tsp, fresh, finely minced


  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender; blend until smooth. Allow to set up in refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Yields about 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons per serving.
