Opa! These Greek-inspired turkey burgers are full of rich flavors and topped with a delicious cucumber sauce. Tzatziki is a Greek yogurt sauce that gained popularity in the seventies. It is a perfect creamy foil to these zesty burgers. Try these burgers bunless or wrapped in cool and crunchy green leaf lettuce leaves. A side of toasted pita chips and some halved cherry tomatoes tossed in a lite vinaigrette make a wonderful full plate. Ready in just under 30 minutes, these burgers are great for family dinners any night of the week. Throw them on the grill in summer months for a great outdoor meal.

Ingredients

Uncooked extra lean ground turkey breast

½ pound(s), lean

Uncooked zucchini

1 small, coarsely shredded

Onion

1 Tbsp, chopped, finely grated

Cilantro

1 Tbsp, fresh, finely chopped

Jalapeño pepper

½ small, seeded and minced (wear gloves to prevent irritation)

Olive oil

1 tsp, or vegetable oil

Plain low fat yogurt

½ cup(s)

Cucumber

cup(s), finely diced or sliced seeded peeled cucumber

Garlic

1 clove(s), minced

Lime zest

½ tsp, grated

Fresh lime juice

1½ tsp

Instructions

  1. To make the burgers, combine the turkey, zucchini, onion, cilantro, and jalapeño pepper in a bowl until well mixed. Shape into 4 patties.
  2. Heat 1/2 teaspoon of the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the burgers and cook until golden and cooked through, about 12 minutes, turning the burgers halfway through and adding the remaining 1/2 teaspoon oil to the pan after turning them.
  3. Meanwhile, to make the tzaziki sauce, stir together the yogurt, cucumber, garlic, lime zest, and juice in a small bowl. Serve with the burgers. Yields 2 burgers and generous 1/3 cup sauce per serving.
