An American favorite, the rocky road elements of chocolate, marshmallow and walnut propel these rich, cake-like brownies to a whole new level. Using the lower fat preparation elements of egg white, applesauce and water makes room for the deeply flavorful additions that make these brownies truly special. Ready in just 40 minutes, this recipe produces a whopping 24 servings of gooey delight. Take this luscious dessert to a potluck or make for a holiday gathering. Noone will ever know you used a brownie mix.

Ingredients

Regular brownie dry mix

1 package(s), about 21 1/2 oz

Mineral water

¼ fl oz

Unsweetened applesauce

¼ cup(s)

Egg whites

4 large

Walnuts

¼ cup(s), coarsely chopped

Mini chocolate chips

¼ cup(s), or 2 oz

Marshmallows

8 medium, chopped or 1 cup mini marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Coat a 9- x 13-inch pan with cooking spray; set aside.
  2. Prepare brownie mixture according to package directions for lower fat brownies using 1/4 cup water, applesauce and egg whites. Pour into prepared pan.
  3. Sprinkle walnuts over top of brownies; bake according to package directions. Remove from oven about 5 minutes before the end of the baking time, and toss chocolate chips and marshmallows over top; cook 5 minutes more. Remove from oven and cool brownies on a wire rack. Cut into 24 pieces; serve.
