There aren't many side dishes as flavorful or easy to make as some fresh homemade coleslaw. Dark, rich sesame oil adds a distinct flavor to this version and helps cut down on the richness of the other ingredients. This coleslaw takes less than 10 minutes to put together, as all you have to do is toss packaged coleslaw mix, red onions, mayonnaise, cilantro, salt, pepper, and the aforementioned sesame oil in a bowl...and you're all set to go. No pots or pans or fancy equipment required. You can also make it well ahead of time and let it hang in the fridge until it's ready to serve.

Ingredients

Packaged coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage and carrots)

¾ pound(s)

Red onion

1 medium, thinly sliced

Fat free mayonnaise

½ cup(s)

Cilantro

2 Tbsp, fresh, chopped

Dark sesame oil

1 tsp

Table salt

tsp, or to taste

Black pepper

tsp, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and toss to combine. Cover with plastic and refrigerate until ready to serve. Yields about 1 cup per serving.
