Your family will flip for these savory waffles that are like a cross between a pizza and calzone. Pizza dough is filled with marinara, mozzarella, turkey pepperoni, and chopped bell pepper, then cooked in a hot waffle iron until the dough is wonderfully crisp. Don’t worry if you don’t seal the pizza dough completely around the filling; if a little cheese oozes out, it gets irresistibly crisp. For a classic supreme-pizza vibe, use green bell pepper; for a sweeter flavor, go for red or yellow.

Ingredients

Cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Frozen pizza crust dough

8 oz, thawed, or refrigerated, at room temperature

No sugar added fat free marinara sauce

¾ cup(s), divided

Shredded part skim mozzarella cheese

½ cup(s)

Bell pepper

¼ cup(s), minced

Turkey pepperoni

12 piece(s)

Instructions

  1. Divide dough into 8 equal portions, rolling each into a ball. On a piece of parchment paper, stretch or roll each dough ball into a 3½- to 4-in circle (lightly flour paper if dough is too sticky).
  2. Preheat a nonstick Belgian waffle iron. Spoon 1 tbsp marinara over each of 4 dough circles; top each with 2 tbsp cheese, 1 tbsp bell pepper, 3 pepperoni slices, and 1 dough circle. Lightly press edges of dough to seal. Coat waffle iron with nonstick spray. Arrange dough packets in waffle iron; close lid, and cook until dough is lightly browned and crisp, 4 to 6 minutes. Serve with remaining marinara sauce.
  3. Serving size: 1 pizza waffle and 2 tbsp marinara sauce
