This overnight oats recipe requires just 6 ingredients (one of which is water), and you can prep it at night so it's ready to go in the morning since it has to chill in the fridge. Using the microwave to heat it up makes for the most convenient breakfast ever. Top the oatmeal with deliciously honeyed apples for a sweeter treat. You can also make a big batch of the oatmeal so you can have breakfast on hand for you and your family throughout the week.

Water

Uncooked steel cut oats

¼ cup(s)

Ground ginger

1 pinch(es)

Table salt

1 pinch(es)

Apple

½ small, chopped

Honey

1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Combine water, oats, ginger, and salt in medium microwavable bowl. Cover with wax paper and microwave on High 3 minutes. Let stand at room temperature 30 minutes. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Microwave, covered, on High 3 minutes. Stir well, then cover and let stand 10 minutes.
  3. Combine apple and honey in small bowl and toss to coat. Spoon apple mixture on top of oatmeal and serve at once.
  4. Makes 1 serving.

Notes

Add more protein to this breakfast by topping the oatmeal with plain fat-free Greek yogurt.
