Ginger, water, sugar and cloves make a flavorful syrup for the navel oranges to marinate in for an hour. When choosing naval oranges to use for this recipe, look for smooth-skinned oranges that are heavy for their size. We also suggest that you wash the oranges thoroughly before peeling and cutting. Peel the orange with a paring knife to more easily remove the pith and membranes. While this dish is a refreshing addition to breakfast or brunch, you might want to consider serving it as an elegant dessert as well.
