Planning a trip to the apple orchard? Feature the best of your bounty in this tasty autumnal cake. You'll love the taste of the fresh, sliced apples that have been flavored with ground cinnamon and a touch of sugar. It's also incredibly easy to make, requiring just 15 minutes of prep time. The presentation of the fanned-out apples also goes to show that this dessert is perfect to serve as an impressive-looking end to any dinner party or get-together. Also try making this cake with pears if you don't happen to have any apples around.

Ingredients

Cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Egg

2 large egg(s)

Sugar

½ cup(s)

Fat free skim milk

¼ cup(s)

Light butter

2 Tbsp, melted

Vanilla extract

1 Tbsp

White self-rising flour

1 cup(s), sifted

Cornstarch

1½ Tbsp

Apple

1 large, green, peeled, cored and thinly sliced

Ground cinnamon

1 tsp

Sugar

1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Coat an 8-inch round cake pan with cooking spray, and line the bottom with parchment.
  2. In a large bowl using an electric mixer, beat the eggs and 1/2 cup of the sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the milk, the melted butter, and the vanilla extract.
  3. Combine the flour and the cornstarch and fold it into the cake batter. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
  4. Layer the apple slices in a circular pattern on top of the cake. Combine the cinnamon and the sugar in a cup and sprinkle it over apples. Bake until a tester comes out clean when inserted into the center of the cake, about 30 to 35 minutes. Cut the cake into 8 pieces and serve.
