Oat-topped peach crisp

Total time: 55 min • Prep: 15 min • Cook: 40 min • Serves: 6 • Difficulty: Easy

Nutty-tasting oats and cinnamon-sugar-coated breadcrumbs top sweet peaches in this baked dessert. If you can't find whole-wheat bread crumbs, you can make your own: Toast two slices of whole-wheat bread, then finely chop them up in a food processor. Instead of peaches, this easy-to-assemble, very versatile dessert would be great with cherries and plums. The hearty oat topping goes well over any sweet treat. You may even find yourself or the rest of your family sneaking a couple of bites for breakfast.

Ingredients

Peach

4 medium, sliced

Sugar

2½ Tbsp

All-purpose flour

1 Tbsp

Dried plain breadcrumbs

½ cup(s), whole-wheat

Unpacked brown sugar

3 Tbsp

Uncooked quick oats

½ cup(s)

Ground cinnamon

¼ tsp

Margarine

1 Tbsp, soft

Instructions

1

Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, toss together peaches, white granulated sugar and flour; spoon into a 9-inch glass pie dish.

2

In a small bowl, toss together bread crumbs, brown sugar, oats and cinnamon.

3

Spread oat mixture over peaches. Cut margarine into slivers and sprinkle over bread crumb mixture. Bake until peaches are bubbling and the topping is browned, about 40 minutes. Yields about 1 1/4 cups per serving.
