This coffee creation is more like a sweet treat than your average cup of joe. It packs quite a caffeinated punch, so use decaf if you don't want a jolt. Feel free to add a cinnamon stick to each cup as a pretty and aromatic garnish. You can also experiment with other sweet flavors to find your favorite combination—try adding ground nutmeg, cloves, cocoa powder, or a fresh vanilla bean seeds to the cinnamon and brown sugar mixture as it simmers. For the vanilla bean, you’ll need to slice into it and scrape out the seeds just before using it. Your house will smell divine and your coffee will taste rich and special.

Ingredients

Water

3 cup(s)

Dark brown sugar

cup(s), packed lightly

Ground cinnamon

tsp, or to taste (or 1 cinnamon stick)

Black coffee

½ cup(s), ground

Fat free evaporated milk

3 cup(s)

Instructions

  1. Bring water, sugar, and cinnamon to a boil. Add coffee, and turn down heat; simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. While coffee is simmering, heat evaporated milk in microwave on low or over a very low flame; do not let it boil.
  3. Strain coffee through a coffee filter. Add vanilla and heated milk; stir. Yields one cup per serving.
