This sweet and savory chutney is delicious with a holiday baked ham, roast turkey, or as an addition to a cheese platter. This also makes leftovers standouts—slather it in your Thanksgiving turkey sandwich, whisk a spoonful into last night's vinaigrette for a new-spin on the usual salad, or spoon it over reheated sweet potatoes for loads of autumnal flavor. Make a big batch of this chutney to keep on hand in the fridge, or jar it up and give it to friends, family, and party hosts as a delicious gift from your kitchen. Simply tie jars with ribbon and include a tag that lists the many ways this versatile condiment can be used.

Ingredients

Apple

3 large, Gala or Granny Smith, peeled, diced

Shallot

10 Tbsp, chopped, minced, divided

Minced ginger

1 Tbsp

Orange juice

½ cup(s)

Apple cider vinegar

cup(s)

Dark brown sugar

½ cup(s)

Mustard seed

¾ tsp

Kosher salt

¾ tsp

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients, except 2 Tbsp shallot, in a medium, heavy-bottomed saucepan; cook over medium heat, stirring often, until sugar melts, about 5 minutes.
  2. Cover pan and cook until chutney is thick, 50 to 60 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool; stir in remaining 2 Tbsp shallot. Chill before serving, about 1 hour.
  3. Serving size: 1/4 cup.
