Transform the humble sausage into ‘haute’ dogs with this next-level topping, guaranteed to wow!

Ingredients

Calorie controlled cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Red onion

1 medium, thinly sliced

Thyme, Fresh

1 teaspoon(s), plus extra to serve

Balsamic vinegar

1 tablespoon(s)

Light Brown Sugar

1 teaspoon(s)

Reduced fat pork sausages, grilled

4 medium

Hot dog rolls

4 roll(s)

Instructions

  1. Lightly mist a lidded frying pan with cooking spray and place over a low heat. Add the onion and thyme. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes until soft and slightly golden. Stir occasionally so they don’t catch, adding a splash of water if necessary.
  2. Remove the lid and stir in the vinegar, sugar and 2 tbsp water. Cook for a further 5 minutes until the liquid has almost evaporated and the onion is soft and sticky. Season to taste.
  3. Place 1 sausage in each roll and top with the onion. Sprinkle over the extra thyme and serve.
