This refreshing and delicious summer dessert works best with lighter red wines, such as merlot, zinfandel, or beaujolais, as heavier reds may take over the rest of the flavors. The best part is that you can marinate the peaches for as long as 2 hours, so they can hang out and be waiting for you until you're ready to serve. The recipe only requires four ingredients and will soon become your go-to, weeknight-friendly, healthy dessert. The lemon sugar sprinkled on top helps bring it all together. For a tasty variation, you can use strawberries or blueberries and a light white wine instead of the peaches and red wine.

Ingredients

Sugar

4 Tbsp

Lemon zest

½ tsp

Red wine

4 fl oz

Peach

4 large, halved, pitted, and cut into 1-inch-thick wedges

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 tablespoon of the sugar and the lemon zest in a small bowl; set aside.
  2. Combine the remaining 3 tablespoons sugar and the red wine in a large bowl, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Add the peaches and stir gently to coat. Let stand at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.
  3. Divide the peaches among 4 wineglasses and spoon the wine mixture over. Sprinkle with the lemon sugar and serve at once. Yields 3⁄4 cup peaches, 2 tablespoons sauce, and 3⁄4 teaspoon lemon sugar per serving.
