Red Wine–Marinated Peaches

This light and delicious summer dessert works best with lighter red wines, such as merlot, zinfandel, or beaujolais.
lemon zest½ tsp
red wine4 fl oz
peach(es)4 large, halved, pitted, and cut into 1-inch-thick wedges
- Combine 1 tablespoon of the sugar and the lemon zest in a small bowl; set aside.
- Combine the remaining 3 tablespoons sugar and the red wine in a large bowl, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Add the peaches and stir gently to coat. Let stand at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.
- Divide the peaches among 4 wineglasses and spoon the wine mixture over. Sprinkle with the lemon sugar and serve at once. Yields 3/4 cup peaches, 2 tablespoons sauce, and 3/4 teaspoon lemon sugar per serving.
