This light and delicious summer dessert works best with lighter red wines, such as merlot, zinfandel, or beaujolais.
Ingredients

sugar

4 Tbsp

lemon zest

½ tsp

red wine

4 fl oz

peach(es)

4 large, halved, pitted, and cut into 1-inch-thick wedges

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 tablespoon of the sugar and the lemon zest in a small bowl; set aside.
  2. Combine the remaining 3 tablespoons sugar and the red wine in a large bowl, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Add the peaches and stir gently to coat. Let stand at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.
  3. Divide the peaches among 4 wineglasses and spoon the wine mixture over. Sprinkle with the lemon sugar and serve at once. Yields 3⁄4 cup peaches, 2 tablespoons sauce, and 3⁄4 teaspoon lemon sugar per serving.
Notes
For a tasty variation, use strawberries and white wine instead of the peaches and red wine.
