Kellie, lost 1st 6lb*

*People following the WeightWatchers weight-loss programme can expect to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. Kellie lost weight on a previous WW programme and WW Freestyle™

In Kellie’s words:

When I went in for my yearly physical in 2013, my doctor told me that my blood pressure was so high that I was considered pre-hypertensive. That’s the last step before you have to go on medication. I have a family history of hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. I didn't want my daughter to be afraid of losing me. I wanted to be around for her high school graduation and so many more moments in her life. That’s what pushed me to join WW and stick with the programme.

A journey to wellness

Breaking unhealthy traditions

My daughter is my 'why'. I want to change our family history of poor health not just for me, but for her, too. So from the beginning, I’ve made sure to show her this through my actions. For example, every week, we plan our meals and go shopping on Sunday. One of the tricks I taught her is to shop in the fresh produce section of the supermarket. I always tell her to try to eat foods that are closest to nature.

Changing her body image

When I started the journey years ago, my goal was to fit into a size 6. But as I got older, I noticed how important it was to be healthy, and my outlook changed. I’ve been able to avoid medication and I’ve been able to teach my daughter an important lesson about body image: You don’t have to worry about being overweight or underweight. Just focus on being healthy and having a balanced life.

How Kellie’s success with WW has improved her life

Embracing new things

Now that I’m in my mid-30s, I feel healthier and younger than I felt in my 20s. I’m confident enough to take risks. I’m participating in activities that I never thought my body could do — like running 5Ks and half-marathons. Recently, I started taking hot Pilates classes in a room that’s around 35°C. It’s so challenging, but I love doing it. Bonus: I’ve created new relationships through these classes!

Focusing on the positive

I have a whole different perspective on life now. Before I joined WW, I was in a very introverted, very dark space. Now that I’ve been on the programme for a few years, I see all kinds of situations in a different light. Instead of looking for the negative in everything — that’s human nature sometimes! — I try to find the positive. I’ve learned that there’s always a bright side to everything.
