WeightWatchers® Celebrates Black Culture and Cuisine

For centuries, Black communities have built cultures rooted in wellness—and flavor. To honor this heritage and savor the deliciousness, we’ve assembled traditional recipes from around the globe, including West and Central Africa, the Caribbean and West Indies, the southern United States, and more—including dishes from chef Millie Peartree and the WW Homecoming cookbook.

Looking for healthier soul food? You’re not alone. When we asked WW members in the Black Women’s Connect group what kind of recipes they were craving, this cuisine was the clear winner! Find great soul food dishes plus other favorites across the diaspora, right here.

The Lowcountry & the Gullah Geechee

The Gullah Geechee culture—which populates a region now called the Lowcountry, the coastal area spanning from the Carolinas to northern Florida—offers cuisine that best preserves Western African influence. This includes large roasts, rice, and crops like okra, cowpeas, Georgia peaches, and sweet corn, plus seafood from the Atlantic.
