Here’s a wonderful, tasty way to start any morning.Serve with sliced fresh fruit or berries, if desired.

Ingredients

Apple

4 large, honeycrisp, peeled and thinly sliced

Unpacked light brown sugar

1 tbsp(s), (15 ml)

Fresh lemon juice

1 tsp(s), (5 ml)

Ground cinnamon

1½ tsp(s), (7 ml) divided

Ground nutmeg

1 pinch(es)

Ground allspice

1 pinch(es)

Egg

5 large

1% low-fat milk

1 cup(s), (250 ml)

Vanilla extract

1 tsp(s), (5 ml)

Table salt

¼ tsp(s), (1 ml)

Cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Cinnamon raisin swirl bread

9 slice(s), halved diagonally

Instructions

  1. Combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, 2 ml (1/2 tsp) cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice in a glass bowl; cover and microwave until apples soften, about 4 minutes on high.
  2. Meanwhile, in a medium, shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, remaining 5 ml (1 tsp)cinnamon, vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Coat inside of a 6-L (6-quart) slow cooker with cooking spray. Dunk 10 bread halves in egg mixture and arrange in an overlapping circle on bottom of slow cooker; pour cooked apples over top.
  4. Dip remaining 8 bread halves in egg mixture and arrange in a wreath shape around edge of slow cooker, leaving some apples showing in center. Pour remaining egg mixture evenly over top. Cover and cook on low for 2 hours.
  5. Serving size: 175 ml (3/4 cup)
