This classic Cuban combo of pork, ham, pickles and cheese makes for a small but mighty sandwich and the recipe is easily doubled to feed a crowd.

Ingredients

Low-fat mayonnaise

2 tbs

Dijon mustard

3 tsp

Garlic

1 clove(s), crushed

Brioche burger bun

6 mini, split in half, (6 x 20g buns)

Deli-sliced roast pork

225 g

97% fat-free deli sliced ham

125 g, leg ham, shaved

Bread and butter cucumbers

12 slice(s), (60g)

Light Swiss cheese

6 slice(s), (6 x 20g slices)

Oil spray

1 x 3 second spray(s)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Whisk mayonnaise, mustard and garlic in a small bowl.
  2. Arrange bun bases on a baking tray and top evenly with pork, ham, bread and butter cucumbers and cheese. Spread mayonnaise mixture over the cut-side of bun tops, then place mayonnaise-side down over filling.
  3. Lightly spray sliders with oil and cover with a sheet of foil. Place another baking tray on top and press lightly to weigh down sliders. Transfer to oven (leaving baking tray on top) and bake for 10-15 minutes, until cheese is melted and filling is heated through. Serve.

Notes

FOODIE FACT: The cuban sandwich - or ‘Cubano’ -originated in Florida amongst Cuban immigrants. Traditionally served on pan Cubano (Cuban bread), it’s now a deli favourite that is imitated worldwide with all kinds of variations made. COOKING TIP: If preferred, toast sliders a few at a time in a preheated sandwich press instead of baking in the oven.
