Toad in the hole
Preheating oil is the secret to achieving the puffed golden batter for this traditional British dish.
Whole grain mustard
Extra lean beef sausage
360 g, (12 chipolatas)
1 x 3 second spray(s)
- Preheat oven to 220°C or 200°C fan-forced. Using electric beaters, beat eggs, milk, flour, thyme and mustard in a large bowl for 1–2 minutes until smooth. Set batter aside for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, lightly spray a medium non-stick frying pan with oil and heat over medium-high heat. Cook sausages, turning, for 4–5 minutes or until just cooked through.
- Pour oil into a 9cm x 19cm (base measurement) loaf tin and place in oven for 5 minutes. Arrange sausages in tin and pour over batter. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden and cooked through. Serve sprinkled with extra thyme.
SERVING SUGGESTION: Steamed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots.
