Turkey Taco Filling

Make a bigger batch of the seasoning blend and store it in a tightly closed container for up to 3 months. It’ll speed up prep time on so many future meals, and is just as good with beef and chicken as it is with turkey. Serve the filling with hard or soft taco shells and the usual taco toppings. Or make a warm salad: Greens and veggies are a great base for taco salad. Set up the vegetables in a bowl and spoon the turkey filling on top. Add a dollop of sour cream, cilantro sprigs, and pickled jalapeños, if you like a little heat.

  1. In small bowl, mix chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne. Set aside seasoning mix.
  2. In large nonstick skillet, cook turkey over medium-high heat, breaking up meat with back of spoon, until no longer pink, 4 to 5 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle turkey with reserved seasoning mix and add 1⁄2 cup water. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until most liquid has absorbed, 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in vinegar and sugar and continue to simmer until warmed through, 2 to 3 minutes.
