Eating low carb for weight loss

With WW no foods are off limits, but we appreciate that sometimes you might be looking to lower your carb intake.

If so, we'd recommend you focus on satisfying proteins, such as skinless chicken and turkey breast (or opt for meat-free alternatives such as Quorn) and pack your plate with large servings of vegetables and salad.

What is the keto diet?

There are some more extreme versions of a low-carb diet, including the ketogenic diet. The keto diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that restricts carbohydrate intake to 20-50 grams per day. Bear in mind that one medium-sized banana contains about 27g of carbs.

The keto diet shifts the body's metabolism away from carbohydrates, and towards fat and ketone bodies (a type of fuel produced by the liver using stored fat). In essence, your entire body starts using fat as its fuel supply, burning fat 24/7.

Following a low-carb diet on WW

Our WW program gives you the flexibility to include carbs like bread and pasta; however, these generally have a higher Points compared to lean proteins and veggies. Your budget is designed to nudge you towards healthier food choices, and may naturally result in a reduction of carbs in your diet.

Eating fewer carbs doesn't have to be difficult, even when eating out. What could be tastier than a juicy steak and peppery salad? When cooking at home, try grating some cauliflower and boiling as an alternative to rice.
