These Halloween spiders are more cute than creepy, and they’re delicious to boot. Chocolate wafer cookies are spread with lightly sweetened, reconstituted powdered peanut butter to form the bodies, slender pretzel sticks become legs, and pomegranate seeds give a mildly spooky red-eye look to our spiders. Try not to assemble them too far ahead, as the wafer cookies will start to soften once spread with the peanut butter; we recommend serving within one hour of assembly.

Ingredients

Powdered peanut butter

½ cup(s)

Powdered sugar (confectioner's)

2 tsp(s)

Chocolate wafers

16 item(s)

Pretzels

8 stick(s), halved

Pomegranate seeds

2 tbsp(s)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the peanut butter powder and sugar. Add 4½ to 5 tbsp water, stirring until smooth. Reserve about ½ tsp of the peanut butter mixture. Divide the remaining mixture evenly over 8 cookies, spreading almost to the edge. Arrange 8 pretzel halves around the cookie (4 on each side) to form the spider legs. Top with another cookie, pressing to seal.
  2. Using a toothpick, place 2 small dots of peanut butter mixture on the top of each cookie sandwich (where the eyes will go). Top each dot with a pomegranate seed to form the spider’s eyes.
  3. Serving size: 1 assembled spider cookie
