Slow and steady: Michelle lost 35kg over 2 years

Michelle's weight-loss story
What was life like before WW?
In my 20s and 30s I had surgery for my tonsils, appendix, wisdom teeth and more. Every surgery set me back, and recovery time got longer. It had a big impact on my physical and mental health and I came close to reaching 100kg. I first joined WeightWatchers to lose weight for my wedding 24 years ago. I almost got to my goal weight and was 2kg off! My wedding day is one of my all time favourite days and thanks to WW it helped me feel beautiful.
What made you rejoin WeightWatchers?
Since my wedding my weight has gone up and down. Now I was in my late 40s, I was overweight, unfit, unhealthy and unhappy. I have arthritis in my knees which caused a lot of pain but I didn’t want to have surgery so I rejoined WW.
What do you like about the WW program?
I love that on the WW program nothing is off limits. You work the program so it works for you. It also teaches you that a healthy lifestyle is as much about what you eat as about how you feel and think. I’ve learnt to listen to my body about what it needs versus what it wants.

What does an average day on WW look like for you?
My average day involves walking and yoga for exercise and when it comes to eating, I have overnight oats with chocolate protein powder. It’s like eating pudding for breakfast! I have an omelette with veggies for lunch and a WW recipe for dinner. Curries are my favourite!
What have you loved about virtual workshops?
I love the connections I have made during Virtual Workshops. I have even met face to face with one of my former Coaches and participants when they came to visit my home town. I really enjoy that you can just ask questions and have a little giggle together when you slip-up.
Did you have any challenges along the way?
My biggest challenge along the way was not giving up when my weight plateaued for a few months, but in fairness I wasn’t sticking to the program on weekends. There was a lightbulb moment when someone said in the Connect community “Don’t let weekends be your week end.” So I re-focussed and lost the last 10kg over the first COVID lockdown in Victoria. I’m so glad I persevered!
What are you most proud about?
I reached my goal weight of losing 35kg over 2 years which I am happy with as for me it was not a race. I’ve been traveling around Australia for over 150 days and I’m still within my healthy weight range! My weight loss has greatly helped the arthritis in my knees.
What is your best advice for others?
WW is a game changer, if you follow the program, include your favourite foods and treats, it works!
