Ingredients
Calorie controlled cooking spray
4 spray(s)
Beef Braising Steak, Lean, raw
650 g, cut into chunks
Red onion
1 medium, finely sliced
Garlic
1 clove(s), finely sliced
Garam Masala
1 tablespoon(s), level
Turmeric
1 teaspoon(s)
Ground Cumin
1 teaspoon(s), level
Coriander, Dried
½ teaspoon(s), level, ground
Chilli flakes
½ teaspoon(s), level
Tinned Tomatoes
2 can(s), large, chopped
Coriander, fresh
2 tablespoon(s), chopped
Brown Rice, dry
240 g
Turmeric
2 teaspoon(s)
Instructions
1
Mist a large casserole dish with cooking spray and heat over a medium temperature. Add the steak and fry until the pieces are browned all over, then put to one side – you’ll need to do this in batches to ensure the meat has plenty of space in the pan.
2
Add the onion to the dish and fry for 4-5 minutes, or until soft. Add the garlic and spices, then cook for 1 minute. Return the meat to the dish. Stir in the tomatoes, then fill one tin with water and add this too. Bring to the boil, then reduce to a simmer.
3
Partially cover and leave for 1 hour, or until the sauce has reduced and the meat is tender. Season, then stir through most of the coriander
4
Meanwhile, bring a large pan of water to the boil. Add the rice and turmeric, then cook for 25-30 minutes, or until tender. Drain well. Serve with the masala, garnished with the remaining coriander.
