Hearty steak sandwiches

A healthy take on an old favourite, this steak sandwich will impress even the fussiest of eaters. Perfect for a hot summer’s day.


Red onion

1 medium, sliced

Lemon juice

2 tbs

White sourdough bread

280 g, (8 x 35g slices)

Beef sizzle steak, raw

8 medium, (8 x 65g steaks) (see tip)

Mixed salad leaves

80 g

Lebanese cucumber

2 medium, sliced


2 medium, sliced

Tomato relish

2 tbs

Oil spray

1 x 3 second spray(s)


  1. Combine onion and lemon juice in a small bowl, set aside to marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Lightly spray a chargrill or barbecue with oil and heat on high. Cook bread for 2 minutes each side or until charred and golden. Cook steaks for 1 minute each side or until just charred.
  3. Drain onion mixture on paper towel. Top four pieces of bread with salad leaves, steaks, cucumber, tomato and onion mixture. Top with relish and sandwich with remaining bread to serve.


TIP: Sizzle steaks are very thin, tenderised steaks. They are available from the meat cabinets of most supermarkets. If unavailable you can use minute steaks
