When a burger is smashed onto a scorching-hot frying pan, it gets a crispy crust, which we top with cheese, for this ultimate fast food fakeaway.

Ingredients

Calorie controlled cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Red onion

½ small, sliced

Extra lean turkey mince, less than 3% fat

500 g, cooked

Light cheese slices

4 slice(s)

Smooth Mustard

4 teaspoon(s), level

Burger bun

4 medium, sliced

Lettuce

4 leaf/leaves, small

Tomato

1 large, cut into 8 slices

Instructions

  1. Mist a frying pan with cooking spray and heat over a medium high heat. Add the onion slices and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until lightly charred. Set aside.
  2. Divide the turkey into 8 equal portions and shape each into a ball. Transfer 4 balls to the hot frying pan. Using a large spatula, smash each ball into a very flat 4-inch circle. Season the patties with salt and pepper and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until cooked through. Transfer to a plate. Repeat with the remaining mince. Once cooked, top the patties with the cheese, then top with the other patties and remove from the heat.
  3. Spread the mustard onto the cut sides of the burger buns. Build the burgers with the bun bottoms, lettuce, onion, double patty stacks, tomatoes and bun tops.
