Creamy porridge is topped with spiced stewed apple and yogurt. Toasting the oats first gives the porridge a lovely nutty flavour.


Cooking Apple

1 medium, peeled, cored and chopped

Lemon Juice, Fresh

1 teaspoons

Cloves, Whole or Ground

1 individual

Ground Cinnamon

1 pinch

Porridge oats

60 g

Skimmed Milk

400 ml

0% fat natural Greek yogurt

2 tablespoons

Mixed Spice

¼ teaspoons, level


  1. Put the apple in a small lidded pan with the lemon juice, a teaspoon of water and the clove and cinnamon. Cover and cook gently for 5 minutes or until the apple starts to break up (add another teaspoon of water if it starts to look dry). Cover to keep warm.
  2. Meanwhile, put the oats in a nonstick pan and toast them over a medium-high heat for a couple of minutes or until fragrant. Add the milk, turn the heat down and slowly bring to the boil, stirring with the handle of a wooden spoon.
  3. Simmer on the lowest heat, stirring often, for 8-10 minutes, or until cooked and creamy. Spoon into bowls and top with the apple compote and a trickle of cold milk around the edge. Serve with the yogurt and a sprinkle of mixed spice.
