Spicy braised beans on toast

Fire up the barbecue or camping stove and make the most of the outdoors with this hearty dish


Olive Oil

2 teaspoons

Bacon medallions, raw

60 g, unsmoked, chopped

Red onion(s)

1 small, chopped

Tinned Tomatoes

2 can(s), large

Hot & Spicy BBQ Sauce

2 tablespoons

Cannellini Beans, cooked

2 can(s), large, drained

Wholemeal bread, sliced

4 slice(s), thick


  1. Heat the oil in saucepan over a medium-high heat. Cook the bacon and onion, stirring, for 5 minutes or until the bacon is golden and the onion is softened.
  2. Add the tomatoes, sauce and beans and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes. Spoon the beans over the toast to serve.


Need to feed a crowd? Double or triple the ingredient quantities. You can use red kidney beans or four-bean mix instead of cannellini beans if you like.
