When you have a house full of guests to feed—or simply want an easy warming breakfast that cooks itself—turn to this no-fuss recipe of spiced porridge. The oats cook to thick, creamy perfection overnight, so all you have to do in the morning is scoop it into bowls to serve.

Ingredients

Calorie controlled cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Pinhead oatmeal

240 g

Light Brown Sugar

60 g

Ground Ginger

1½ teaspoon(s), level

Ground Cinnamon

1½ teaspoon(s), level

Salt

¾ teaspoon(s)

Ground Nutmeg

½ teaspoon(s), level

Cloves, Whole or Ground

¼ individual, ground

0% fat natural Greek yogurt

8 tablespoon(s)

Instructions

  1. Mist a large slow cooker with cooking spray. In the slow cooker, stir together 1.4 litres water, the oats, brown sugar, ginger, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg and cloves. Cover and cook on Low for 7-8 hours until thick and tender.
  2. Stir the oat mixture well, scraping the bottom and sides of the slow cooker. Spoon the porridge into bowls; topping each serving with a dollop of yogurt.

Notes

Make sure to mist the slow cooker with cooking spray (even if you use a liner!) to prevent the oats sticking.
