600 g, peeled, cored and chopped

- Preheat the oven to gas mark 5/190ºC/fan 170ºC. Put the pears in a small saucepan, add the caster sugar and a splash of water and cook gently until softened. Stir in the vanilla extract and spoon into a shallow 1.5 litre (2¾ pint) ovenproof dish.
- Put the flour and spread in a mixing bowl and rub together until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the oats and demerara sugar, and sprinkle over the pear mixture. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden and bubbling.
