A mugful of this spiced drink makes a great warmer on bonfire night

Ingredients

Skimmed Milk

400 ml

Cinnamon Stick

1 stick(s)

Orange

1 zest(s) of 1, 4 peels, plus additional zest to garnish

Cocoa Powder

2 tablespoon(s), level

Icing Sugar

14 g

Cornflour

2 teaspoon(s), level

Instructions

  1. Pour the skimmed milk into a saucepan and add the cinnamon stick and 4 strips of orange peel. Bring almost to the boil, turn off the heat, then cover the pan and leave to infuse for 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, sift the cocoa powder, icing sugar and cornflour together in a small bowl.
  3. When ready, remove the orange peel and cinnamon stick from the milk and place the saucepan back, uncovered, over a medium heat.
  4. Stir the cocoa mixture into the milk and whisk gently for 2-3 minutes until thick. To serve, divide between two mugs and garnish with extra orange peel, if you like.

Notes

For a grown-up version, serve with 15ml Cointreau per mug
