Your 7-day dinner plan: Truly satisfying salads
Who says salad has to be boring? We've turned seven of your favourite classic dishes into veggie-packed salad recipes that are anything but ordinary. The keys to transforming these recipes into salads are keeping as much of the flavours and textures of the original dish as possible and loading up on veggies that pair well with those flavours.
Our cheeseburger bowl has all the expected flavours of the fast-food original: crunchy pickles, well-seasoned beef, and crisp lettuce. We simply upped the lettuce, making it a base, and turned the "special sauce" into a dressing complete with ketchup, mayo, and mustard.
The barbecue ranch chicken salad includes a sweet and tangy homemade barbecue glaze and cookout veggie favourites like corn and tomatoes. No goat cheese? Try shredded pepper Jack or Monterey Jack cheese instead.
In our turkey taco salad, crushed tortilla chips take the place of hard taco shells, but the cumin-spiced meat mixture and salsa verde remain familiar, with the salsa doubling as a seasoning for the turkey and as a dressing drizzled on at the end.
Whether you try just one or try them all, they're guaranteed to help you up your veggie intake come dinner time. Say goodbye to forgotten bags of wilted lettuce!
