Studded with bits of sticky-sweet toffee, these blond bombshells get their toasty, nutty flavor from a combo of browned butter, white whole-wheat flour, and molasses-laden brown sugar.

Ingredients
Unsalted butter
5 Tbsp
Packed brown sugar
⅞ cup(s)
Unsweetened applesauce
½ cup(s)
Vanilla extract
2 tsp
Egg
1 large egg(s)
White whole wheat flour
2 cup(s)
Baking powder
2 tsp
Table salt
¾ tsp
Toffee baking bits
⅔ cup(s)
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9–inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang of 2 inches on two sides.
2
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium and cook until the butter is browned and very fragrant, about 3 minutes. Scrape the butter into a medium bowl. Whisk in the sugar, applesauce, and vanilla. Add the egg and whisk until well combined.
3
In a large bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the butter mixture and stir until well combined. Fold in the toffee bits.
4
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread into a thin, even layer. Bake until the blondie is set, about 20 minutes. Let cool slightly. Using the parchment paper, lift the blondie out of the pan. Cut into 30 squares.
