Tiny flaxseeds are powerfully good. They’re loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidant-rich lignans, and a healthful dose of fiber—both soluble and insoluble. Keep in mind that flaxseeds need to be ground to work their magic.

Ingredients

Fat free skim milk

3½ cup(s)

Table salt

¼ tsp

Quick-cooking barley

½ cup(s)

Uncooked bulgur

½ cup(s)

Uncooked old fashioned rolled oats

½ cup(s)

Ground flaxseed meal

2 Tbsp

Ground cinnamon

¼ tsp

Peach

1 large, cut into 12 wedges

Raspberries

1 cup(s), or blueberries

Packed light brown sugar

4 tsp

Instructions

  1. Combine milk and salt in medium saucepan and cook over medium-high heat until bubbles form around edge of pan. Stir in barley, bulgur, and oats. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring frequently, until milk is absorbed and grains are tender but still chewy, about 10 minutes.
  2. Remove saucepan from heat; stir in flaxseed meal and cinnamon. Divide cereal evenly among 4 bowls. Top each serving with 3 peach wedges, 1/4 cup raspberries, and 1 teaspoon brown sugar.
  3. Serving size: 1 bowl
