To crush ice, place the cubes in a zip-close plastic bag, seal, and coarsely crush with a rolling pin.

- Toss together the blackberries and maple syrup in a small bowl; set aside.
- Put the strawberries, ice, sugar, 1/4 cup of the almonds, the lemon juice, and almond extract in a food processor and puree. Immediately divide the mixture evenly among 4 wineglasses. Top evenly with the blackberry mixture and sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of almonds. Serve at once. Yields generous 3/4 cup crush, 1/4 cup blackberries, and 3/4 teaspoon almonds per serving.
