To crush ice, place the cubes in a zip-close plastic bag, seal, and coarsely crush with a rolling pin.

Ingredients

fresh blackberries

6 oz, container

maple syrup

1 Tbsp

unsweetened frozen strawberries

16 oz, thawed slightly

ice cube(s)

1 cup(s), coarsely crushed

sugar

6 Tbsp

almonds

¼ cup(s), sliced, blanched variety

almonds

1 Tbsp, blanched variety

fresh lemon juice

1 tsp

almond extract

1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Toss together the blackberries and maple syrup in a small bowl; set aside.
  2. Put the strawberries, ice, sugar, 1⁄4 cup of the almonds, the lemon juice, and almond extract in a food processor and puree. Immediately divide the mixture evenly among 4 wineglasses. Top evenly with the blackberry mixture and sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of almonds. Serve at once. Yields generous 3⁄4 cup crush, 1⁄4 cup blackberries, and 3⁄4 teaspoon almonds per serving.

Notes

To make the almonds even more tasty, toast them by putting them into a skillet and cooking until lightly golden, which will take about 5 minutes over medium heat.
