Salty-sweet almonds are a wonderful treat any time of day! These almonds are simple to prepare in just 23 minutes and make a whopping 32 servings. Eat a handful as a mid-day snack to stave off hunger or sprinkle on your favorite green salad for added texture and flavor. Keep a bowl handy when guests arrive for a tasty and simple nosh, or serve during game day celebrations as an easy appetizer. Try this delicious coating on other nuts such as pecans, peanuts or cashews. Toasting the nuts before you start the recipe for more intense flavor and some extra crunch. Kids will gobble these up after school or before dinner. Keep some on hand in an airtight container to maintain their freshness.

Ingredients

Honey

¼ cup(s)

Crushed red pepper flakes

¾ tsp

Almonds

3 cup(s), sliced, whole, natural, toasted (about 1 pound)

Cooking spray

1 spray(s)

Sugar

3 Tbsp

Table salt

1 tsp

Chili powder

½ tsp

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Warm honey and crushed red pepper in a large skillet over medium heat for 1 minute. Stir in almonds. Remove from heat and spread almonds in a single layer on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Bake for 18 minutes; cool 2 to 3 minutes. (Honey mixture will still be slightly sticky.)
  3. Combine sugar, salt and chili powder in a medium bowl. Place almonds in same bowl with sugar mixture; toss gently. Spread nuts on parchment paper or wax paper to cool completely. Store in an airtight container until ready to use. Yields about 10 nuts per serving.
