The best way to tell if an avocado is ready to eat is to gently squeeze it in the palm of your hand. Ripe fruit will be firm yet will yield to gentle pressure.

- Combine the avocado, cucumber, salsa, and cilantro in a medium bowl. Serve at once or cover and refrigerate for up to 8 hours. Yields 1/3 cup per serving.
