This four-ingredient recipe truly allows apples to shine. There’s no added sugar because apples are naturally sweet enough, and the apple peels stay on. The skins lend color, flavor, and texture—and we puree everything at the end anyway. This is a great use for apples that might be a bit past their prime for out-of-hand snacking.

Ingredients

Apple

3 pound(s), red-skinned, unpeeled, cored, and coarsely chopped

Apple cider

¼ cup(s)

Table salt

¼ tsp

Cinnamon stick

2 item(s), optional

Instructions

  1. In an electric slow cooker, combine the apples, cider, salt, and cinnamon sticks, if desired. Cover and cook on Low until the apples are very tender, 5 ½ to 6 hours. Using an immersion blender, puree the mixture.
  2. Serving size: 1/3 cup
