Blackberries, chocolate, and mint combine make this deeply colored and deliciously flavored sauce, great to have around for many uses. Try serving drizzled over waffles, or make a sundae with ice cream, frozen yogurt, or “nice” cream. However you decide to put this lovely sauce to use, garnish with some fresh blackberries and a few small fresh mint leaves to complement the flavors and add a little visual beauty to the plate.

Ingredients

Blackberries

2 cup(s), rinsed and drained (or frozen, thawed)

Sugar

3 Tbsp

Unsweetened cocoa powder

2 Tbsp

Fresh mint leaves

8 item(s), left whole (plus extra for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In medium saucepan, cook blackberries, 1/2 cup water, sugar, cocoa powder, and mint over medium heat, stirring often, until berries break down, about 4 minutes. Transfer to blender and purée until almost smooth. Set fine-mesh strainer over medium bowl and strain sauce into bowl, pressing on solids to extract sauce. Transfer sauce to jar. Cover and refrigerate for up to 7 days.
