These delectable bite-sized morsels are the perfect after-dinner treat, and they take just 10 minutes to prepare before going into the oven. The batter, with its heavy dose of brown sugar, is similar to a blondie batter that then is studded with chocolate chips. You can use light or dark brown sugar. Dark brown sugar has more molasses than light brown, providing a richer flavor. The applesauce replaces butter or oil, and it helps keep these bars moist. You can substitute cinnamon chips, toffee bits, butterscotch morsels, or white chocolate chips to put your own twist on the recipe. Freeze leftovers individually for an easy grab-and-go dessert—if there are any!
