Fresh herbs are a terrific way to intensify a food's taste. We used a variety of them to spice up this garlic bread so we could drastically cut back on fat. Garlic bread isn't really Italian; residents of Italy eat what we've come to appreciate as bruschetta. Garlic bread is pure Italian-American, loved by eaters of all backgrounds for it's warm, punchy flavor and crisp crust and soft crumb. This loaf smells as good baking as it tastes. Fair warning: It's hard to resist eating this bread hot out of the oven!

Light butter
1½ Tbsp, melted
Garlic
