For a simple appetizer that is always a hit with guests, you can’t beat shrimp cocktail. For this version, we gussy-up store-bought cocktail sauce with lots of lemon zest, a spritz of lemon juice, Sriracha, and cilantro. The sauce tastes fresh, a little spicy, and deliciously different from the usual offering. For convenience, go with frozen precooked shrimp and thaw it overnight in the fridge. You can assemble the platter up to a day ahead; keep it covered in the fridge and bring it out shortly before serving. Garnish with lemon wedges, if desired.


Store-bought cocktail sauce

Lemon zest

Fresh lemon juice

Sriracha hot sauce

Cooked shrimp

  1. In a small bowl, stir together the cocktail sauce, cilantro, lemon zest, lemon juice, and hot sauce. Serve with the shrimp.
