Broccoli with orange-sesame sauce
SmartPoints® value per serving
This Asian-inspired citrus sauce really perks up broccoli. Serve this savory veggie side dish with steamed jasmine rice and five-spice pork tenderloin or soy-glazed fish fillets to make it a meal. Once you've mastered this sauce, you can apply it to almost any vegetable no matter the season. It works beautifully with asparagus in spring, green beans in summer, Brussels sprouts in fall, and carrots or cauliflower in winter. Tweak the flavor profile by swapping lime or lemon zest for the orange zest here. If you like things spicy, add a pinch or two of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
Unsweetened orange juice
1½ tsp, grated and peeled
2 tsp, dissolved in 4 tsp water
Fresh lemon juice
2 tsp, toasted
1 pound(s), florets, steamed
- In a small nonstick saucepan, combine orange juice, honey and gingerroot; bring to a boil. Add the dissolved cornstarch and return to a boil, stirring; cook until thickened, about 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and sesame oil.
- Place broccoli in a serving bowl. Top with the sauce and sprinkle with the sesame seeds.
